The Progressive Talent Initiative (PTI) is a first of its kind intensive training program which will produce strong communicators with strong messages and will help place these messages in the right locations to be heard. PTI hopes to create a sustainable framework that will enable progressive voices to be heard consistently and comprehensively in both the short and the long term.

Media Matters for America will host its next PTI media training July 20-21 before Netroots Nation 2010. The PTI training at Netroots Nation will include presentations about technique, messaging, tactics, style and hot button issues such as national security, immigration, health care, etc.

This training will be held Tuesday, July 20 and Wednesday, July 21 at the Rio hotel in Las Vegas, NV. This training is geared toward members of the Netroots community with a wide variety of backgrounds and experience levels. Previous TV appearances are not a requirement but participants should be able to speak intelligently on current issues and have a strong on-camera presence.

Participants are expected to fully engage in the training from the morning of Tuesday, July 20th through the afternoon of Wednesday, July 21st. While breaks will be provided throughout the training, participants should not plan on being available for work or other personal commitments for the duration of the program.

The cost of the training, training materials and all meals during the training will be covered by Media Matters. Participants must arrange their own travel and accommodations.

The application for the July 2010 training can be found here

The application provides a space to include at least one but no more than three URLs to provide a video clip of you on TV. If you do not have a TV clip, please create a video for review answering the following question in no more than 90 seconds:

- What do you think is the biggest challenge facing the progressive movement?

In the video, please present yourself how you would if you were being interviewed on TV, taking into consideration how you would dress and sit for an on camera appearance. The quality of the video will not be considered (iPhone/BlackBerry video quality is perfectly acceptable), the review team is more interested in seeing and hearing you on camera.

Please use the application as an avenue to showcase your talents and why you feel you should be selected to participate in the program. Please note in the application if you were referred by a specific organization or individual.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee comprised of experts in the field and PTI team members. All decisions are at the discretion of the review committee and details regarding why an applicant was or was not chosen will not be disclosed.
